Veneers are a type of dental restoration, which completely covers the front of the tooth only. It is done when the tooth is not severely damaged so it is a way to protect the tooth structure.
In cases where a CEREC or same day veneer is not possible, we will take an impression of the prepared tooth or teeth and send away for the veneer to be fabricated. The veneer/s will then be inserted at a subsequent dental appointment.
Veneers can be made from many ceramic materials, which are usually fabricated using indirect methods (made outside of the mouth).
Using these indirect methods allows the use of strong restorative materials requiring time consuming fabrication methods which can demand intense heat, such as casting metal or firing porcelain which would not be possible to complete inside the mouth.
